Monica Zarafu
Managing Director at BYKKO
Monica Zarafu is the founder and managing director of BYKKO, a Newcastle-based electric bike-share and e-mobility company she started in 2016 after identifying a gap in docked charging infrastructure for shared e-bikes. Born in Romania, she moved to Australia in 2010 and worked as a transport engineer for more than 25 years before building BYKKO's smart mobility platform. BYKKO ran Australia's first electric bike-share trial in Newcastle in 2018 with Transport for NSW and Newcastle City Council, and Zarafu was named Innovator of the Year at the 2021 Women in Digital Awards. On Welcome to Day One, she discussed launching BYKKO.
