Paul Kelly

Dr Paul Kelly is co-founder and venture partner at OneVentures, an Australian venture capital firm, where he leads the healthcare and biotechnology practice and chairs the investment committee for its Healthcare Fund III. He trained as an endocrinologist at St Vincent's Hospital Sydney before moving into biotechnology, co-founding Gemini Genomics and leading its Nasdaq listing at a US$250 million valuation ahead of its merger with Sequenom. He later served as chief executive of Orchid Cellmark, lifting its valuation tenfold, and now sits on the board of heart-device maker BiVACOR. On First Cheque, he discussed navigating biotech investing as a syndicate.
